Sebastien Loeb posted fastest time at this morning’s qualifying session for Rally Argentina, and the Citroen driver will now have first choice on where he wants to run on the road tomorrow. Loeb’s time of 2m36.369s for the 2.85-mile stage was 0.759s faster than his nearest rival, team-mate Mikko Hirvonen. While the French firm enjoyed one-two status from the stage, it was Spain’s Dani Sordo who stole the limelight, posting the fastest time of any of the Ford Fiesta RS WRCs.

IndyCar team KV Racing Technology has been fined an undisclosed amount after Tony Kanaan’s car failed a post-race technical inspection at Long Beach two weeks ago. The series said in a statement that Kanaan’s car was found to be in breach of rule 14.7.2 of the IndyCar rulebook, which states: “The maximum capacity of the fuel cell shall be 18.5 US Gallons.” Kanaan achieved a season-best result of fourth in the race.

Nico Rosberg described his Bahrain Grand Prix’s fifth place for Mercedes as successful damage limitation, and denied the result was frustrating after he had taken a dominant victory in China just a week earlier. After qualifying, Rosberg had said he was even more confident about his race pace than he had been going into the Shanghai grand prix, but he ended up losing places on the first lap and only managed to recover to fifth. The German remained upbeat, pointing out that earlier in the season Mercedes would have been expected to suffer far more in a race so hard on tyres.
